A New Method of Estimating Groundwater Evapotranspiration at Sub-Daily Scale Using Water Table Fluctuations

نویسندگان

چکیده

Riparian ecosystems fundamentally depend on groundwater, and accurate estimations of groundwater evapotranspiration (ETG) are important for understanding ecosystem functionality managing regional water resources. Over the past several decades, various methods have been proposed to estimate based table fluctuations. However, majority cannot resolve sub-daily variations in ETG. In this study, we a new hydraulic theory-based ETG estimation method at time scale. To evaluate its performance, employed variety measurements (i.e., levels, latent heat flux soil contents) riparian forest (T. ramosissima) Northwest China from 25 July 10 October 2017. The results indicated that can successfully both (R2 = 0.75) daily 0.88) scales, but specific yield under different conditions should be carefully taken into account. addition, investigated seasonal uptake source plant, found it had strong plasticity usage during study period. That is, consumed approximately equal amounts when moisture was available, tended consume more survival as depleted. verify patterns forest, systematic isotope-based studies needed future study.

Estimating evapotranspiration and groundwater flow fromwater-table fluctuations for a general wetland scenario

The use of diurnal water-table fluctuation methods to calculate evapotranspiration (ET) and groundwater flow is of increasing interest in ecohydrological studies. Most studies of this type, however, have been located in riparian wetlands of semi-arid regions where groundwater levels are consistently below topographic surface elevations and precipitation events are infrequent. Current methodolog...

Estimating IDF based on daily precipitation using temporal scale model

The intensity –duration –frequency (IDF) curves play most important role in watershed management, flood control and hydraulic design of structures. Conventional method for calculating the IDF curves needs hourly rainfall data in different durations which is not extensively available in many regions. Instead 24-hour precipitation statistics were measured in most rain-gauge stations. In this stud...

Estimation of evapotranspiration using diurnal groundwater level fluctuations: Comparison of different approaches with groundwater lysimeter data

[1] In wetlands or riparian areas, water withdrawal by plants with access to groundwater or the capillary fringe often causes diurnal groundwater fluctuations. Various approaches use the characteristics of these fluctuations for estimation of daily groundwater evapotranspiration rates. The objective of this paper was to review the available methods, compare them with measured evapotranspiration...

A New Method to Map Groundwater Table in Peatlands Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Groundwater level (GWL) and depth to water (DTW) are related metrics aimed at characterizing groundwater-table positions in peatlands, and two of the most common variables collected by researchers working in these ecosystems. While well-established field techniques exist for measuring GWL and DTW, they are generally difficult to scale. In this study, we present a novel workflow for mapping grou...
